JANUARY 1977: Pictured is Shane Dyson, 11, of
Wallaroo, on his motorcycle ready for a demonstration at
the New Year’s Day regatta at Wallaroo. Plans for refur-
bishing the Corny Point lighthouse tower are approved.

JANUARY 1987: Broughton/Mundoora Football Club
reappoints senior coach Trevor Sims and he hopes to
make it three consecutive premierships. SYPWBA singles
champion of champions is Muriel Cook, of Minlaton. In
SYPCA, Sunbury’s Geoff Tripp makes 155 runs against
Stansbury. Heather and Graham Prout’s Kadina garden is
chosen as one of the state finalists in the Australia-wide
Home Beautiful magazine competition. The intake of peas
at the SACBH silo at Paskeville indicates Yorke Peninsula
and northern areas lead the way in state pea production.
The newly-formed Friends of Innes National Park group’s
first job will be to clean up building sites in the old
Inneston township. Minlaton High School teacher Larry
Krieg is promoted to senior master at Cummins Area
20 YEARS AGO
JANUARY 1997: The NYP Kids v Cancer cabaret bash
raises more than $50,000 for Childhood Cancer Research.
Pensioners can continue to earn up to $98 per fortnight
for singles or $172 per fortnight for couples before their
payment is affected. NYP softball player profile, Michelle
“Min, Munchy” Kenchington likes Kentucky Fried
Chicken, Jim Beam and Coke, winning grand finals and
impersonating Patto. Tribute to Football on YP: Doug
Cobb captained Moonta to a premiership in 1949, but was
working at Wallaroo Clothing Factory and moved to
Wallaroo so played in its 1952 premiership side; the facto-
ry closed in 1960.

JANUARY 2007: Tighter water restrictions begin with hand-
held hoses only to be used to water gardens between 8pm and
8am; buckets can be used at any time. Pictured riding the
Hardwicke Bay Store tricycle in the Minlaton Christmas
pageant are Stephanie O’Brien and her cousin Holly Taylor,
